We spend the whole winter waiting for the summer to come, and when it does come we want to make the most of it. Which is why, if you are an adventure seeker, you must already have some trails and hikes in mind that you want to do this summer. Hiking is an amazing outdoor activity, choose a trail, pack your backpack, and have the right gear to get prepared!
If you are a newbie hiker, the first piece of advice we have is to pick the right trail for you, start with a fairly even or flat hike, easy walk, or short path, and take your time. You will start improving as you do more hikes. It is recommended to have a companion or join a group of people with more experience. You will learn the tips and tricks faster and it is more fun.
One of the most important things when going for a hike is to select a comfortable backpack, with padded back and shoulders straps like your TruBlue backpack, that will allow you to walk for several hours carrying your essentials without hurting your back. Another golden tip for hiking is to travel light, which is why it is important to choose a lightweight backpack, that allows you to move with freedom without being loose, so it must be adaptable to your body size. For this reason, TruBlue has designed lightweight backpacks with adjustable straps so you can experience major comfort.
To travel light, you have to pack light, therefore consider the time that you will be on the trail and prepare enough snacks and water. If you are going with a group, distribute your supplies among all the hiker’s backpacks so the weight is balanced, and if for any reason someone gets lost or a backpack gets lost, the rest of the group is also carrying the essentials. Always pack a knife, a lighter, a flashlight and a compass and don’t bring anything unnecessary. Also, if you know that you can find supplies on the route, avoid bringing too much water, because it can weigh down your backpack.
It is also important to choose the right gear to wear. Choose the right boots for hiking, make sure they have nice grip, support the ankles and are made with durable material. If possible choose boots that are specifically for outdoor activities. Another important thing to remember is to dress properly, use optimal outdoor clothing since it will be lightweight, durable and comfortable. Always dress like an onion (in layers). It is vital to carry a waterproof jacket, since it can suddenly get cold or start raining (this is Canada!), so you better be prepared.
And the last tip is to have fun and enjoy as much as possible. Experience beautiful hiking trips with your friends and enjoy the summer! And don’t forget to take pictures with your favourite TruBlue Backpack companion and tag us on Instagram!
