We are in the middle of August and it seems like the summer is already coming to an end. It happened so fast! right? We are not saying we don’t love Autumn, it’s just we that want to enjoy those incredible warm days as much as we can. So, if you love summer as much as we do and you haven't done everything that you want outdoors, check out this great list of the things you should do before the summer ends.
#1: Hit the Beach
This year, the summer has not been as warm in some provinces compared to previous years, and so far, many of the lakes have not warmed up enough to take a dip. Although some people have done it! This weekend hit the nearest beach, brace yourself and enjoy a quick swim before the summer ends. This is a great excuse for a day trip with your friends or family. Plan a picnic at the beach, fill your TruBlue canvas backpack with sandwiches, snacks, and beverages.
Spending the day at the beach can be so relaxing and fun. There are so many things to do, starting from working on your tan, which is very important since you will spend the following months under a pile of sweaters. Or, you can sit in the shade in a chaise lounge and read your favourite book. And if you are feeling more energetic and adventurous you can do some kayaking, canoeing, paddle-boarding or play some sand sports like volleyball or soccer. The most important thing is to enjoy the day outdoors!
#2: Outdoor movie night
During summer, many places have an awesome initiative to show some movies outdoors in a park or at a beach. So, grab your favourite blanket, fill your TruBlue backpack with some quick snacks like popcorn, candies and some drinks, and enjoy a lovely evening outdoors watching a free movie with your friends.
If you live in Toronto, you have to visit the Sail-In Cinema presented by PortsToronto, where Sugar Beach becomes an awesome free outdoor cinema. The movies are shown on a two-sided screen set on a deck above the water and people watch the movie from the lakeshore. From August 18th to 20th visit Sugar Beach and don’t miss this great experience that only happens in the Summer!
#3: Ride your bike to a new trail
The majority of cities in Canada are bike-friendly and if you love biking, you will agree that there are so many stunning trails for you to explore in every Canadian province! This is truly the best way to see new places. You don’t have to worry about parking or about buses. Of course, you cannot do such long distances in as short a period of time as you can do with a car, however, you can move around easily and be out in nature.
Once winter comes we will all put our bikes away until the next summer. So before summer ends, use your bicycle as much as you can to explore new places. Search in your city if there are biking groups and join one so you can discover new trails and have a different experience. Plus, you can learn more tricks from more experienced bikers!
#4: Take a Wine Tour
If you are a wine lover, taking a wine tour is a must-do before fall comes. The experience is lovely and you will taste a variety of special wines. Niagara in Ontario is considered a Wine Country since there are plenty of wineries to visit. You can rent a bike or bring your own and go along the route stopping at different wineries to taste their specialties. The view of the vineyards during a sunny afternoon is stunning, plus you also have the view of the Niagara River. Prince Edward County is another great place to have a wine tour.
The majority of wineries have different packages for you to choose from, if you find a vineyard that you love, you can pick an option with lunch included, this way you can enjoy a lovely meal overlooking the vineyards. If you would rather go exploring several wineries and try different flavors then it’s better for you to take a bike ride. Remember to pack your canvas backpack with your favourite cheeses and crackers, this way you can have a picnic at your favourite spot in the vineyards.
#5: Enjoy a sunset from an impressive location
There are many incredible things in nature but nothing is as captivating as the sunsets; and above all, the summer sunsets, they are the best! For this reason, before summer ends and the sun starts hiding at 5 p.m., find an epic spot and just enjoy a sunset. This is the perfect reason to take a hike or go camping. If you haven’t done any of these activities this summer, don’t wait longer, we have given you the perfect excuse to organize the trip.
With your Canada 150 Parks pass you can enter all the Provincial parks for free, so search for your nearest park and go on a day hike. Have a great view of the sunset from atop a hill, and if you want to make your trip longer, plan to go camping, this way you don’t have to worry about heading home early and you can stay to enjoy the sunset. Don’t forget to bring on your backpack all your essentials and be careful with the bears!
