Canvas is a stiff and durable material that dates all the way back to 300 B.C. At this time, people in China were making cloth from a version of canvas obtained from hemp fiber. This canvas material was excellent for making ropes and cordage, and because of its great strength, it began to be used to fabricate sails, canopies and shelters.
In the 15th Century canvas became popular as a clean slate for painters to express their imagination, and now the material has gone a step further as being recognized for its beauty and design on its own.
The durability and artistic qualities of canvas gave us the inspiration to make our first line of backpacks out of this wonderful material. As seen in our “The Original” and “Original+”, this canvas material in the eyes of TruBlue is a material that provides our customers with a fresh starting point to travel across the world like the first sailors did and to express your imagination as painters do.
When we started working with our manufacturers we began to truly see the potential behind this great fabric. Compared to other materials, canvas backpacks have some great unique qualities apart from being rugged and durable. It is also extremely light weight and has a very subtle and stylish texture that is both attractive to the eyes and to the touch.
Our manufacturers blew us away with the amount of knowledge, hard work and dedication that went into all the fine tuning that made The Original what it is today. All of our backpacks are assembled and sewn by hand by dedicated employees who live in the same region in the world where canvas was first discovered and brought to life and today they are still pushing the capabilities of what you can do with this one of a kind material.
We know though that ultimately the limitations of canvas can only be set by our customers who are using our backpacks. That being said, we at TruBlue want there to be no limitations. We want our customers to be able to personalize their backpacks to match their unique selves which is where we got the concept of our customizable straps and pins. We also want there to be no physical limitations with the bags that we make, which is why we at TruBlue stand by the effortless lifetime warranty.
We just want you to be you, and your backpack to be able to reflect exactly who you are.
