The Easter long weekend is approaching soon, road trip anyone? Who doesn’t love to have an extra day on the weekend to plan a nice trip with friends? Well, spring is finally here so it is the best time to plan a road trip to explore the amazing province of Ontario. We know the weather has not warmed up that much yet, but good news: we get to enjoy longer and sunny days!
There are many places you can visit just a few hours from Toronto, so you can take a nice 3-day road trip and explore some of the natural hidden gems Ontario has to offer.
Hamilton is just 2 hours away from Toronto. It is a great place to enjoy an amazing hiking time with awesome views. If you love nature and being outdoors, Hamilton is the right place for you, since you will find many waterfalls, the Niagara Escarpment, hiking trails and breathtaking views at the look-out points. Head down the road and start your adventure. Remember to leave early to avoid traffic jams!
First, you can visit Dundas Peak, which is one of the most famous places in Hamilton. On your way to the peak stop at Tew’s Falls, a dramatic waterfall with mountain views. This is a great place to take pictures with your classy TruBlue canvas and leather backpack. It takes about 1.5 hours to reach the Dundas Peak and the trail is lovely. Pack your backpack with snacks and drinks and have a picnic at the peak with that stunning view of the city and mountains. After your lovely picnic and a nice rest, head back on the trail and visit Webster’s Falls which are very close to the Peak.
Resume your journey and now drive south-east towards the Royal Botanical Gardens in Hamilton. You can take Sassafras Trail which is a 1km walk or the Ginger Valley trail which is a 1.5km walk. Both are very nice trails with lovely views and an impressive lookout point at the end to Lake Ontario. This is a great destination for a long weekend road trip. Take your time to take the perfect picture with your TruBlue backpack for Instagram to make your friends envy your mini-vacation adventures!
Stay the night in Hamilton, it is a great city. Explore the local restaurants and coffee places. They are awesome!
The next day, drive north of Toronto to explore beautiful Simcoe County, which comprises all the towns between upper lake Simcoe and Georgian Bay, including Midland, Penetanguishene, Barrie, Orillia, Collingwood and many more. If you are still up for some winter sports visit Blue Mountain resort, and enjoy some skiing, a walk through the lovely village and a nice meal with a view.
If you don’t want to do any winter activities, we recommend you visit Midland and Penetanguishene, both are lovely towns, nice to walk around exploring and since they are right on the shore of Georgian Bay, the views are fantastic. Make sure to dress warmly since it might still be chilly, and explore the trails along the shore. Pack your water repellent backpack with sandwiches, chips, drinks, and enjoy a nice lunch with a view. If the weather is not that cold the best way to explore is by bicycle, so rent a bike and continue your adventure.
Continue exploring the heart of Georgian Bay, you can drive along the shore and stop at the small towns along the ride. Despite being cold the views of the bay are spectacular, so make sure to stop at Wasaga Beach and capture some amazing photos.
