For a lot of people, when asked what is your favourite season of the year? you may not get a whole lot of ‘Winter’ responses. If you’re not one of those people yourself, it doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy it at all right? I mean come on, if you’re truly Canadian there has to be some part in your body that tingles over the first sight of snow, and hopefully it’s not your toes or finger tips. Well if you need a boost to get excited for the upcoming season, here is a list of 5 things to do this winter….
Outdoor Skating: When you think of outdoor winter activities, outdoor skating is probably one of the first to come to mind. It may not be the most original on this list but there sure is potential for you to make it one of the most memorable things you can do this winter. The trick to doing so is to find the best place to go skating and I’m not just talking about a local outdoor rink or the pond in your neighbourhood. There are plenty of cool rinks to visit all across Canada, some of which include skating trails over a kilometer long! For some ideas check out indie88’s list of The coolest Places to Skate in Toronto.
Make your own Hot Chocolate from scratch: For those who enjoy some comfort away from the great outdoors, this entry is something almost everyone can get behind. Hot Chocolate is a staple during the winter and holiday seasons and there is arguably nothing more relaxing than sharing a cup of hot cocoa in front of a blazing fire with some marsh mallows in the comfort of your home with family and friends. Why not make it more unique and special by making your own secret recipe. For a starting point, here is a link to 5 different ways to make hot chocolate! Enjoy!
Taboozing: Say what? I thought this list was rated E for everyone? Well it turns out not everyone gets the same level of amusement from sliding down a hill only to trek all the way up again (repeat). Spice up the fun and add some Bailey’s to that hot chocolate before you head out to the hill. Just remember not to let things get out of hand and be responsible.
Go on a skiing adventure: For the people who are reading through this list, a lot of you have probably gone skiing or continue to go skiing from time to time. To make this entry more exciting we encourage you to make an adventure out of it! Go somewhere different, try some cross-country trails and experience the best that winter in Canada has to offer. Get up North: If you have a cottage, or a friend who has a cottage, try and make plans for a weekend getaway this winter! And if not you can always look for places to rent. Cottages are great places to kick back and enjoy the Summer but Winter however opens up new doors for activities. You can take the snow mobile across the lake, you can hike through the woods in snow shoes, and set up a nice calm spot on the lake and spend the afternoon ice fishing. Whatever activity you decide to do, it will all be topped off with the beautiful sights and sounds that the great outdoors has to offer. Just remember to stay warm!
