Ever find yourself in a strange city asking "Where do all the locals go to eat?" Or, just wanting to try somewhere new in your hometown? Here are some tips for finding the best restaurants near you and narrowing it down to exactly what you are looking for!
Use a "Map" Function
Whether on Yelp, Google, or TripAdvisor, use the map function to figure out where exactly the restaurants or cafes are. Some cities are very large so if you are just looking for a quick bite, be sure not to pick somewhere on the other side of the city.
Find the Real McCoy
The suggestions at the top of your list may not actually be the highest rated. Make sure there is no symbol indicating it is a "Promoted Post" or an "Ad".
Filter, Filter, Filter
Looking for a chill place to have a burger? Or maybe a fancy night out with your SO? Filter by $$ and/or cuisine, nobody likes surprises when it comes to price!
Find a Forum
Websites like TripAdvisor, Lonely Planet, and even City-Data have areas where you can post specific questions and locals or people who have been there will answer you. If you are looking for something really specific, just ask and you shall be answered.
Keep an Open Mind
Are 8 of the top 10 restaurants Thai cuisine and you aren't sure if you will like it? Keep an open mind! Maybe that city has the best Thai food in the world. Maybe you will try it and want to become a Thai chef, or maybe you won't, but there will be no better place to try new things than a city that's famous for that cuisine.
I hope these tips work for you!
